“Why should I devote my life to following Christ?” It’s a big question. Jesus himself said would- be followers should “count the cost of following him” (Lk. 14:25-34). I’d like the Bible itself to give us 10 reasons why all who call themselves Christians should devote themselves to following Him – imperfectly but truly.
Jesus was co-creator of the earth and of you (Col. 1:15-17).
Before the foundation of the world, God and Jesus put together a perfect template for humanity – how we should feel, think and act. This template is doable now through Christ. (Gen. 1:26-28, Eph. 1:4-5).
The Bible says that Jesus is ruler over all things, including Satan, death, life and final justice of all mankind (Matt. 4:1-11, 1 Cor. 15, Rev. 20:7-15).
Jesus had supernatural powers and can use other supernatural beings like no other human can (Matt. 11:5, Matt. 26:53).
Jesus’s life and death was good enough to God to be counted as “a substitute” in our place so that we could be forgiven of our sins and be relationally reconciled to God both now and forever (Eph. 1:1-10, Rom. 5:1-11).
Through faith in Jesus as our substitute, we are given the “gift” of eternal life after we die (Jn. 3:16, Eph. 2:8-9). REMEMBER: no matter what you believe, 99.9% of our existence as humans will happen after we die!
Jesus and God will one day renew all things and promises to be with us and have a home for us in a totally renewed earth that will last forever (Rev. 21-22).
Do you ever honestly assess how really good has your life been by making yourself your own master? Jesus says following Him brings more meaning and joy to our lives than following the world or ourselves (Matt. 6:26, 10:39, Jn. 10:10).
The resurrection really happened. This is the linchpin of Christianity and human history for many reasons (1 Cor. 15:1-20).
- Jesus believed there was a God. Jesus lived to glorify that God and gave us direction that the best thing we can do in life is to glorify that God too through Him (Jn. 17).
